It’s time to move and learn!

Il corpo e il movimento come strumenti di apprendimento (e di divertimento) della lingua inglese.

“Everything in the universe has a rhythm, everything dances.”

Questa meravigliosa affermazione di Maya Angelou si applica perfettamente a qualsiasi lezione di inglese.

Quindi, perché non esplorare “la danza” della conoscenza in classe e “muoversi al ritmo” dell’apprendimento?

Gli studenti della scuola primaria imparano meglio attraverso il gioco e il movimento perché permette loro di comprendere la lingua in modo naturale e interattivo. Il metodo di insegnamento TPR prevede l’uso del movimento fisico e della gestualità per aiutare i bambini e le bambine ad associare parole e frasi alle azioni, in modo che l’apprendimento della lingua diventi significativo. Fare collegamenti tra i movimenti del corpo e gli elementi lessicali aiuta i bambini e le bambine a trattenere le nuove informazioni perché dà significato e contesto.

Nel nuovo webinar “It’s time to move and learn”, daremo uno sguardo al metodo TPR, perché e come applicarlo nell’apprendimento delle lingue, nonché alle attività pratiche e pronte per l’uso tratte dal nuovo corso di inglese Hello World. Vedremo come possiamo far muovere e imparare i nostri bambini e bambine, ballare e ricordare, recitare e cantare, rendendo il loro percorso di apprendimento più coinvolgente!

Il percorso dell’apprendimento continuo non passa solo attraverso gli ambiti linguistici, ma attraversa anche ambiti sociali ed emotivi essenziali per la crescita di un bambino. Del resto, come affermava Aristotele circa 2400 anni fa, “Educare la mente senza educare il cuore non è affatto educazione”.

Con questo in mente, in questo webinar discuteremo dell’importanza di concentrarsi non solo sullo sviluppo degli aspetti cognitivi dei bambini (la mente), ma anche di altre qualità che ci rendono umani (il nostro cuore), in altre parole parleremo di SEL (Apprendimento sociale ed emotivo.)

Condividerò suggerimenti e idee su come le nostre lezioni di lingua possano essere inclusive potenziando l’intelligenza sociale ed emotiva dei nostri piccoli studenti e studentesse. Attraverso le attività suggerite, i bambini e le bambine potranno iniziare a identificare le proprie emozioni, imparare a gestire lo stress ed essere consapevoli che l’amore è universale tra tutti gli esseri viventi.

So, why not explore the “dance” of knowledge in the class and move to the “rhythm” of learning?

Primary school students learn best through play and movement because it allows them to understand language in a natural and interactive way. The TPR teaching method involves using physical movement and gestures to help children associate words and phrases with actions, so the language learning becomes more memorable. Making connections between body movements and lexical items helps children retain the new information because it gives meaning and context

In my new webinar, we are going to take a look at the TPR method, why and how to apply it in the language learning as well as practical, ready to use activities from the newly released Hello World coursebooks for students of primary school. Let’s see how we can make our kids move and learn, dance and remember, act and chant, making their learning journey more engaging!

The vibrant classroom is only a glimpse into the vast world which our little learners explore and discover every day and every moment. The path of continuous learning passes through not only linguistic fields but it also crosses essential social and emotional areas of a child’s growth After all, as Aristotle said some 2400 years ago, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”.

With this in mind, in this webinar we will discuss the importance of not only focusing on developing the cognitive aspects of the children (minds) but also other qualities that make us human (our hearts), in other words, we will talk about SEL(Social and Emotional Learning.)

I am going to share tips and ideas on how our language lessons can be inclusive by empowering the social and emotional intelligence of our little learners. Through the activities suggested, children may start identifying their emotions, learn how to handle stress and be aware that love is universal between all living.

Students should be familiar with the countries where the language originates.

Whether you are a seasoned teacher or new to teaching, there is always something new to explore.

We all aim to teach our young learners the English language. Constantly, we strive to enhance their vocabulary, improve their spelling and grammar skills. However, it is important to question if our students are familiar with the countries where the language originates from and its culture. For example, which islands are included in the British Isle? What is the Bonfire Night and the Gunpowder plot? Where is the river Thames? Which special days are mostly celebrated? How do people in the UK celebrate Halloween?

The webinar “Keep it simple” on October 13^th is centred around the English culture as well as autumn’s festivities and it is designed to assist primary school teachers of English in planning engaging lessons and activities for their students.

Che tu sia un insegnante esperto o nuovo all’insegnamento, c’è sempre qualcosa di nuovo da imparare.

Il nostro obiettivo primario è quello di insegnare ai nostri giovani studenti la lingua inglese. Ci sforziamo costantemente di arricchire il loro vocabolario, migliorare le loro abilità ortografiche e grammaticali. Tuttavia, è importante chiedersi se i nostri studenti abbiano familiarità con i paesi da cui ha origine la lingua e con la sua relativa cultura. Ad esempio, quali isole fanno parte dell’Isola Britannica? Cos’è il “Bonfire Night” e “the gunpowder plot”? Dove si trova il fiume Tamigi? Quali giorni speciali vengono maggiormente celebrati? Come festeggiano Halloween le persone nel Regno Unito?

L’incontro formativo “Keep it simple” del 13 ottobre è incentrato proprio sulla cultura inglese e sulle festività autunnali ed è progettato per supportare gli/le insegnanti di inglese della scuola primaria nella pianificazione di lezioni e attività coinvolgenti per i loro studenti.

Il prossimo incontro formativi offre ai partecipanti l’opportunità di acquisire informazioni sulle risorse, sulle attività e sui materiali didattici appena pubblicati da Celtic Publishing che comprendono le tradizioni e le celebrazioni autunnali britanniche.

Storytelling: giocare con le storie

Il metodo di insegnamento più naturale, originale e antico che esista

Antica quanto l’umanità stessa, la narrazione è una forma di insegnamento naturale e originale. Può essere uno strumento potente per gli insegnanti di lingue in quanto offre ai giovani studenti una finestra “magica” su un mondo completamente nuovo: un’esperienza avventurosa attraverso i personaggi della storia.

Chiaramente, spetta alle capacità di narrazione dell’insegnante assicurarsi che i bambini siano pienamente coinvolti e intraprendano questo entusiasmante viaggio nella storia.

L’insegnante, in qualità di narratore, leggerà, reciterà, racconterà, reciterà, darà voce ai personaggi, mimerà, descriverà, spiegherà, creerà suspense e svilupperà la storia davanti agli sguardi curiosi dei bambini che facilmente si distraggono in classe.

Quindi, di quali strumenti, tecniche e materiali abbiamo bisogno per aiutare gli studenti ad immergersi in una nuova lingua attraverso una storia?

Cosa può offrire lo storytelling ai giovani studenti di lingue in classe?

Esistono diverse tecniche che gli insegnanti possono utilizzare per raccontare storie semplici in classe e introdurre nuovi elementi di vocabolario o parti e strutture linguistiche agli studenti senza che nemmeno se ne accorgano.

Illustrazioni, immagini, flashcard, flipbook e musica insieme ad altre cose come voci divertenti, gesti, espressioni facciali, recitazione o giochi di ruolo possono sicuramente migliorare l’impatto delle storie sui nostri studenti.

L’incontro formativo “Playing with the stories” di venerdì 24 marzo alle ore 17:00 è dedicato al “How-To” dello storytelling. Suggerimenti e idee saranno condivisi mentre esamineremo questo metodo come un approccio efficace per presentare un nuovo linguaggio, trasmettere conoscenze e valori.

Storytelling: playing with the stories

“As old as the humanity itself, storytelling is a natural, original form of teaching .It can be a powerful tool for language teachers as it provides young learners with a “magic” window to a whole new world : an adventurous experience through the story characters.

Clearly, it is up to the teacher’s storytelling skills to make sure that the kids get fully on board and embark on this exciting story journey.

The teacher, as a narrator, will read, act, tell, perform, give voice to the characters, mime, recite, unravel, describe, explain , create suspense and unfold the story in front of the curious eyes of the easily-distractable children in the class .

So, what tools, techniques and materials do we need to help students immerse in a new language through a story ?

What can storytelling offer to young language learners in the classroom?

There are different techniques teachers can use to tell simple stories in class and introduce new vocabulary items or language chunks and structures to the students without them even notice.

Illustrations,visuals, flashcards , flipbooks and music along with other things such as funny voices, gestures, facial expressions, acting or role play games, can definitely enhance the impact of the stories on our students

The webinar “Playing with the stories” on Friday 24th March at 17:00 is dedicated to the “How-To” of the storytelling. Tips and ideas will be shared as we will be looking at this method as an effective approach to present new language, transmit knowledge as well as values . ”

Come applicarla nell’insegnamento dell’inglese

Potrebbe non essere qualcosa di nuovo per coloro che conoscono un po’ il greco il fatto che le parole: “child”, “game” e “play” in greco hanno in comune la stessa origine. Condividono tutte la stessa radice: paidi, che significa bambino.

Quindi, la frase “Il bambino gioca” sarebbe qualcosa del tipo: “To paidi paizei paixnidia”. Non è sorprendente che in un linguaggio così ricco una sola parola sia usata per trasmettere tre idee diverse? Forse questo potrebbe essere semplicemente perché i termini “child”, “play” e “game” racchiudono tre aspetti dello stesso concetto.

Sin dai tempi antichi si sostiene che il gioco sia di grande importanza per i bambini piccoli e per la loro crescita. Questo assunto è vero ed è confermato da diversi studi che dimostrano come i giochi educativi, compreso l’apprendimento delle lingue, sono utili in svariati modi. Tale consapevolezza ha portato alla crescente popolarità dell’utilizzo di attività impostate sul gioco nell’ambiente di apprendimento, in altre parole, gamification.

Al centro della gamification nelle lezioni di inglese c’è l’incoraggiamento dell’apprendimento attivo. Attraverso giochi e attività ludiche, gli studenti possono sviluppare innumerevoli abilità come il pensiero critico, la creatività, il lavoro di squadra, la leadership, migliorare le strategie per trovare soluzioni e il tutto divertendosi.

Giochi ben progettati, utilizzati in vari modi, attraverso diversi media e piattaforme, possono coinvolgere gli studenti in un modo che pochi altri metodi possono fare. La bellezza del gioco nell’ambiente di apprendimento è che gli studenti sviluppano rapidamente l’autonomia e possono auto-correggersi facilmente, riducendo lo stress emotivo. C’è un chiaro percorso di progressione e gli studenti possono imparare seguendo il proprio ritmo.

Durante il webinar “Let the children play while Santa is coming to town! di mercoledì 9 novembre alle 17 esploreremo il concetto di gamification, vedremo alcuni esempi di attività ludiche (alcune con un tocco natalizio) oltre a siti Web utili e strumenti digitali per aiutarti ad accendere l’entusiasmo per i tuoi piccoli “giocatori”.

Since ancient times people seem to believe that playing games is of great importance for young children and their growth. This is quite true and it is confirmed by various studies which show that educational games including language learning are beneficial in numerous ways. This has lead to the ever-growing popularity of using game-like activities in learning environment, in other words, gamification.

At the core of gamification in the ESL classroom is encouraging active learning. Through games and gamified activities, students can develop countless skills such as critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, leadership, improve strategies to find solutions, all these while having fun.

Well-designed games, played in a variety of ways, using different media and platforms, can engage learners in a way that few other methods can. The beauty of play in the learning environment is that learners develop autonomy quickly and can self-correct easily, with a minimum of emotional stress. There is a clear path of progression and learners can learn at their own pace.

During the webinar Let the children play…while Santa is coming to town” on Wednesday, 9^th November at 5p.m we are going to explore the concept of gamification , will look at some examples of gamified activities (some with a Christmas touch) as well as useful websites and digital tools to help you ignite excitement to your little “players “ around the classroom.
